In For Treatment…this is a foreign film about a florist/greenhouse owner, who takes off work for the morning for a routine physical, only to be abruptly admitted for a workup of an abnormal finding. He is kept in the hospital interminably, as he is diagnosed with a terminal illness. His very rigid doctor refuses to let him go home, even for a visit. Finally, he signs out AMA to attend a family wedding, and returns to his doctor, who waited for him, and in the last scene of the film, kneels to help the patient untie and remove his shoes. This is a very rich film, which to my knowledge is unavailable at present, but should it be located, is mandatory viewing for any clinician. Watching the slow humanization of the doctor taught much about my craft.
