The Italian doctors are on the brink of collapse: They are getting infected
At Italy’s Olio Po Hospital, 25 of the 90 doctors are infected with the new coronavirus, which is putting pressure on the health system already overwhelmed by the pandemic.
And health professionals spread the virus before their symptoms appeared, or went into isolation. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that they do not have enough masks and gloves.
“We’re at the end of the force,”
said physician Romano Paolucci, who has returned from retirement to help hospital near Cremona, one of the worst-hit cities in Lombardy.
-We don’t have enough resources and especially staff because, among other things, staff are now getting sick.
In Lombardy, the region with the most infected and dead, at least two hospitals have become hot spots of infection. The patients were contaminated by medical personnel, who then spread the virus by moving to their communities before strict quarantine was introduced.
